THE JOURNEY

Hi call me Leah. Some years ago—right after my second pregnancy, I began to study and practice yoga mainly as an aid to my then escalating hypertension. Yoga captured my interest when my GP at the time suggested to try breathing practice technique. Both of my children were premature at birth due to Pre-eclampsia. But, even after the delivery of my son my blood pressure still high and out of control. It won’t go back to normal as it should have been. As a result, I had to stay at the hospital under observation for more than a month until my BP is under control. I must admit it wasn’t fun at the time but it was there and then where my yoga practice really begun. Practicing traditional breathing techniques really did helped lower my blood pressure. It is proven to be effective in my case so, in 2002 I became a serious practitioner. I still believe to this date that correct alignment, proper breathing and good yoga discipline in every practice contributed to my health, the rest is history.

In 2005 my family and I move here in Scotland from Hong Kong. While busy getting settled to our new environment, I was also eager to get back to my usual routine to keep my sanity. I started to browse looking for classes that suited my health condition avoiding yoga classes held in gyms even health centres. I’ve noticed most of the yoga classes are tailored to or aiming towards losing weights. Finally after a year of searching, I’ve found the ideal yoga teachers I was looking for. By then, I have had made my decision, to study and train to become a yoga teacher. So, here I am.

Qualification

I achieved my YogaTeaching Diploma qualification from Yoga Scotland, Edinburgh in 2012. I’m also a qualified Aerial Yoga Teacher, Active iQ and registered member of Chartered Institute for the Management Sport and Physical Activity (CIMPSA). I’ve had been teaching yoga mostly for beginners since 2011 and then all levels from 2014.

My style of teaching is quite traditional, analytical, static, gentle yet strong and powerful. By using our own strength and correct alignment our body gently adapt to postures without compromising the joints and the muscles.

Namaste

I aim to help students slowly approach their journey towards yoga, explore yoga in more therapeutic practice integrating mobility, stability and deeper stretch within gentle yoga sequences.

Teaching Hatha Yoga for many years made me aware that there are limitation of what postures we can practice no matter what of age, there’s always something a miss. Introducing Aerial yoga, by using hammock in your yoga practice inversion, backbends, and balancing postures will be achievable.
